Finding happiness in little things

Hola!

How are you all doing? I hope you are safe and healthy.

We all keep whining about how unfair or cruel our lives are. Can we do anything about it? No. But one thing we can do to make this journey a beautiful one is to appreciate and find happiness in the little things.

Today, I’ll share some issues which we often overlook. This life, we get only once. Yes, you only live once my friend. Talking about a few tiny little things and understanding how they can make you a different person (in a good way obviously!).

Appreciate

Think of the times someone told you that you are a nice person or that your hair looks good, or your eyes are beautiful, or you are awesome the way you are. What was your reaction? Think. Think.
Did you feel thankful and happy about whatever you have got? If yes, then great! If not, then my dear, you need to start appreciating yourself first. You are precious! Unique in your own ways, one of your kind. There is no other ‘you’ in this entire universe!
We need to learn to appreciate little things about ourselves, about other people, about mother nature, and about anything worth appreciating (Spoiler — they all are worth appreciating). A few kind words will do different magic altogether.

Stop being judgemental

There is a popular saying, ‘The grass is always greener on the other side’.
“He’s got everything without putting in any efforts, why can’t I while I’m putting in the more efforts?”
“She’s gotten everything I wish for myself to have, but why am I not that lucky?”
You don’t know how much effort that person had put in to reach wherever he/she is. Every single person in this world is fighting a battle of their own. They are heroes in their own world. Each one of us is unique, and so are our problems and struggles. We shouldn’t judge and be biased. To know is to learn.
Once you stop talking about people and start talking about ideas — the world will be a better place.

Be kind and thankful

I always wanted to help poor people when I was a kid. I used to cry seeing their condition. I used to think, why people with all the money can’t give some to these helpless people? As I grew, I slowly learned that this is not how it works. But I still decided that I’ll do whatever I can in my capacity to help people in need. During the first year in my professional IT career, one day I talked to my office boy for his permission and started teaching his kids at lunchtime (It was a small office, they used to live near the parking area). I donate in my capacity for the natural calamities relief funds every now and then. I do help people with food and clothes. These things won’t ever be enough or make any big impact, but doing them gives me a sense of happiness. You are helping someone in their struggle. Knowing that your little gestures have made a huge impact on someone’s life is relieving. Try paying back to this world once. You’ll feel happy too.

Be kind. For no reason.
Be kind to everyone around you, be helpful, be the person you want them to be. You can unknowingly help someone struggling with depression or anxiety. It costs nothing but earns you inner peace.

Love

Unconditional, irrevocable, and pure. Fall in love — with a person or an idea or nature or something that drives you crazy. There is no alternative. If you have, already, then my friend, show it more often than you already do. Leave nothing unsaid. Pour out your feelings. If it’s with a person, do let him/her know they mean the world to you. Do tell them you’ve got their back.
To live is to love. Vivir es amar.

Life goes on

Zendagi Migzara — a Persian phrase which means ‘Life goes on’. In fact, it does go on. Time is precious, you must use it wisely. There will be ups and downs throughout your life. But you gotta keep yourself sane. If you ever feel you are at your lowest, do seek help. People like you and I are out there, willing to help. You must not stop my friend. Try everything you can to help yourself. Everything happens for a reason. Life will not stop, if it’s dark at this very moment, then remember the sun will rise again tomorrow. Be hopeful and be brave.

Albeit these are only some of those little things if you’ve got something to share then comment below. I’ll be more than happy to read your stories and whatever you’ve got to say.

Live. Love. Laugh.
Kanika
